Questions:

1. Create one example of either a valid logical argument, or an invalid logical argument, and state which it is.
2. Find an example of a logical fallacy online (e.g. memes, comments, videos, articles), and explain why it is fallacious.*
3. Give a good, brief argument for why Geomatics is the best discipline on Earth. (Silliness is welcome.)
   *Fallacies need not be those covered in class.

Answers:

1.) Based solely on academics, to transfer into Harvard University students need at least a 4.0 GPA. Student 1234567 has a GPA of 3.1. Therefore, he or she will not be accepted into Harvard.

This is an example of a valid logical argument.

Question 2.)

This is an example of a false dichotomy fallacy because it is saying that the only option to be right is to like bacon. It is being presented as if there is only one option when in fact, there are others.

Questions 3.)

Geomatics is the best discipline on Earth because if it wasn’t for this specific discipline, our society would know much less about our planet. Without Geomatics and the study of the Earth’s surface it is guaranteed that the world would be a much different place.

Geomatics is used everyday by individuals all around the world. It involves many different aspects that include, but is not limited to:

• GPS navigation
• Land use and planning
• Surveying
• Earth surface studies and;
• Spatial and geographic data analysis

Many of the technological and human advancements happened because of the Geomatics discipline. Without this field of study, there would not be any major city developments, maps and many other things. This is why Geomatics is the most important discipline on the Earth.
